In a recent episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, spotter Brett Griffin pointed out the one thing that both NASCAR and Formula 1 are rivaling each other. The thing is of course, the recent run of poor decisions in both forms of motorsports.

“Let’s be honest, NASCAR’s control booth, race control booth and F1’s control booth are like against each other to see who can do the dumbest s**t ever,” Griffin said.

“It’s like, ‘Watch this. Hold my beer. We’re gonna do this, we’re gonna make this rule up, we’re gonna throw a caution for this, we’re gonna let this window net fall down, we’re gonna let this guy finish the race with his window net fallen down, we’re gonna let him win a million dollars,’” he continued.

Having said that, the Miami GP’s viewership numbers didn’t quite live up to the expectations, and certainly not to the hype that surrounded it. The F1 race was watched by roughly 2.066 million people.

On the other hand, NASCAR’s Cup Series race at Darlington on the same day was watched by 2.614 million viewers. So while this might not be a big difference, it is a difference at the end of the day.

Although, what could be concerning for NASCAR is the fact that the viewer demographic between 18-49 received over 700,000 hits.  18-49 demographic with 735,000 viewers.
