More than 30 months after the unfortunate crash that claimed the lives of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gigi and seven others, Vanessa Bryant still lives in fear. The wife of the Los Angeles Lakers great had filed a lawsuit in September 2020, claiming the first responders had taken photos of the remains of the deceased for their own personal gratification.
Former Los Angeles Police Department officer Adam Bercovici testified to the court that the same thing had happened in the O.J. Simpson murder case. In fact, he claimed that this had been happening regularly since then. He said that such ‘death books’ were not unique to the Kobe Bryant case.
Bercovici also testified that there was no particular reason for the first responders to take pictures. On the first day of the trial, Bryant’s lawyer, Luis Li accused 8 deputies of taking pictures of the deceased and sharing them for personal use.
Kobe Bryant‘s agent, Rob Pelinka, also took the stand. However, he got very emotional talking about his relationship with the Los Angeles Lakers legend.
Vanessa claimed in her lawsuit that the incident caused her severe emotional distress, as it was an invasion of privacy. She sobbed on the first day of the trial and found it difficult to listen to everyone’s testimonies. Meanwhile, Bercovici also claimed that enough hasn’t been done to stop such instances from repeating.
Kobe Bryant was a legendary figure in basketball
The whole world mourned the loss of one of the greatest to ever do it. The heartbreaking accident claimed the lives of everyone on board while they were on their way to a tournament. At Bryant’s memorial a few days after he passed away, there was a star-studded lineup of eulogists present.
The trial has already taken its toll on Bryant’s loved ones as gruesome details emerge. Luella Weireter, wife of an LAPD captain, also testified against the deputies. She claimed that a group of people viewed the photos at an event around three weeks after the accident.

She overheard a man saying, “I can’t believe I just looked at Kobe’s burnt-up body and now I’m about to eat”. The trial is expected to go on for a few more days. However, one can only imagine how tough the whole situation must be for Vanessa and her family.
