The PGA Tour is trying to maintain its authority in the golfing world against the LIV Golf. Moreover, prominent golfers like Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, and Tiger Woods are standing with the tour. However, there are a few notable golfers who have joined the rival league for monetary benefits.

The PGA Tour has suspended all the golfers who join the rival league. The LIV Golf concluded its inaugural event last week at the Centurion Club. Meanwhile, the PGA Tour had the RBC Canadian Open, where Rory McIlroy won the event.

Rory has criticized the LIV Golf and Greg Norman since day one, and he has continued the same in the 2022 U.S. Open pre-round interview.

Rory McIlroy continues to defend the PGA Tour 

Rory McIlroy is heading into the 2022 U.S. Open with a victory at the RBC Canadian Open. Moreover, when asked about his views on the inaugural event of the LIV Golf, the Irishman said“Last week in Canada… LIV will never have that. Last week meant something. What they were doing over there meant nothing.”

The 33-year-old fearlessly dismissed the LIV Golf and backed the PGA Tour. Meanwhile, last week on the final hole where McIlroy was on a fringe of victory, there was a mammoth gathering of the crowd around the final green. The fans went berserk after Rory made the winning putt. 

Therefore, the 21-time PGA Tour winner believes LIV will never have these things. Additionally, he also believes that playing last week meant something to him. However, there was nothing for golfers competing at the LIV Golf the previous week, said Rory, ahead of the 2022 U.S. Open.

USGA allows LIV Golfers to compete at the U.S. Open

The PGA Tour released a statement soon after the LIV Golf Invitational Series began. They have suspended all the golfers from competing on the PGA Tour in the future. However, the major championship governing bodies have announced no consequences for the rival league golfers.

USGA released a statement and said if eligible, the LIV golf players can compete in the 2022 U.S. Open. Therefore, Phil Mickelson, Kevin Na, and Dustin Johnson are in the field. However, the respect for these players has diminished among fans and other golfers.
