Justin Thomas dramatically won the 2022 PGA Championship in an epic playoff victory. He tamed the beast at Southern Hills Country, which led to his second major championship triumph. With this win, the Official World Golf Rankings have also seen some significant players making moves up and down the list.

Thomas’ triumph at Southern Hills Country Club on Sunday has caused major upsets in OWGR rankings. At the same time, different new faces in golf, including the seasoned professional Thomas, have made a significant jump on the rankings list.

Scottie Scheffler has still maintained the top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings, and the Spanish professional Jon Rahm is in second place after the 2022 Masters championship. Moreover, Cameron Smith moved one spot ahead from fourth to third, and Collin Morikawa fell from third to fourth on the list.

Justin Thomas makes a big move in World Golf Rankings

Justin made a giant leap on the rankings list to get in the top five. He moved from ninth place to fifth position in World Golf Rankings. However, Patrick Cantlay moved down from the fifth to sixth. As for Viktor Hovland, he fell from the sixth spot to the seventh position, and Rory McIlroy fell one place lower to the eighth.

Jordan Spieth, too, fell in the rankings from the eighth position to the ninth. The 2022 Valspar Championship winner, Sam Burns, moved into the top 10 in the world from his previous 11th position. Burns replaced Xander Schauffele, and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic gold medal winner moved outside the top 10 and fell to 11th place.

But probably one of the biggest upsets in the Official World Golf Rankings was the fall of Tiger Woods. After his disappointing round of 79 and his withdrawal from the 2022 PGA Championship, he slipped from the 818th position to the 841st position.

The 15-time major championship winner withdrew from the second major championship event of the calendar year due to soreness in his right leg.
