The past season was historic for Stephen Curry. The Warriors guard won his first ever Finals MVP leading the franchise to their fourth title in eight years. However, in midst of a dominating run in the NBA, the Baby Face Assassin took out time to fulfill a promise he made back in 2009. The two-time MVP went back for a remaining semester to Davidsons college to get his degree. Now, over a decade later, Curry walked the walls of Davidson as a graduate and a Hall of Famer.

Before his berth in the NBA, Steph Curry wasn’t a high-ranked athlete. Only a few colleges were ready with offers. But Davidson’s coach Bob McKillop saw something special. He invested in the four-time NBA champion, and Steph paid it back in a big way. He set the NCAA record for three-pointers and even won the scoring title in 2009. Arguably, the best athlete out of his college, the 2016 unanimous MVP soon became a household name.

However, there was a promise he made to his coach before entering the NBA draft. A pledge to complete his degree in sociology, Steph once again became an example for the younger generation. And a proud mother, Sonya Curry had a few words for her son’s incredible accomplishment.

The school campus was full was a ceremony was in session for Curry’s graduation. With his entire family in attendance, the 2022 Finals MVP marked another historic feat in his life becoming the first Davidson athlete to earn his degree and have his number up in the rafter. On the auspicious day of celebration, Sonya Curry was elated. Speaking about her son’s incredible journey, Curry wanted her son to live this moment.

She said: “It’s okay to say you’re proud of yourself. You deserve this moment. Sit in it for a minute before you start thinking of something else you got to do. Because I know you are my child and you’re already like what’s the next thing? And then thank God.”

As Davidson’s all-time leading scorer and three-point marksman, Curry drained his final and probably most iconic triple in Davidson’s walls. It wasn’t just a night to celebrate his graduation. The reigning NBA champion etched himself as the grandest athlete in Davidson’s long history. An illustrious basketball career was bound to be rewarded. Likewise, Stephen Curry was elected into the college’s Hall of Fame. Moreover, his iconic No.30 now forever hangs in the rafters.
