It was a disappointing end to a memorable tournament for Coco Gauff. The American tennis sensation reached the finals of both, the singles as well as the women’s doubles. However, she finished runners-up in both events. In singles, she lost against World Number 1, Iga Swiatek, in the summit clash in straight sets. Further, in the doubles competition, the French pair of Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic defeated Gauff and Jessica Pegula in a thrilling final.

Nonetheless, it was a great performance by Gauff throughout the tournament. Recently, the Miami Open tennis tournament shared a video involving Gauff.

Before her French Open final, Miami Open shared a video of Gauff catching up with the Miami Dolphins star, Jaelan Phillips at the Miami Open 2022. Sharing the video on their official Instagram handle, the caption read, “100 days until @miamidolphins football is BACK and 1 more day until South Florida’s very own @cocogauff plays in her first Grand Slam final!”

While it was a maiden Grand Slam final appearance for Gauff in singles, it was her second major final in women’s doubles. Last year, she finished second-best at US Open with partner Caty McNally.

Talking about her emotions during her summit clash against Iga Swiatek, Gauff said, “I feel like the moment was definitely more minimal than I thought. I mean, in the match it probably looked like I was freaking out, but really it was just Iga was too good, I wasn’t freaking out.”

Gauff rises in the WTA rankings

Following her brilliant French Open 2022 campaign, the American tennis sensation has had a massive upgrade to her WTA ranking. In the singles rankings, she has climbed 10 spots to be the 13th best player in the World.  Meanwhile, she is positioned in the fifth spot in the women’s doubles rankings after climbing five places in the latest WTA rankings.
