In a match lasting three hours on the centre court at Wimbledon, Kyrgios began the match on a positive note, taking the opening set 6-4. However, Djokovic came back strongly to level the match by winning the second set 6-3.
Further, the Serb carried the momentum in the third set, winning it 6-4. The fourth set was a keenly fought affair. Djokovic won crucial points in the tiebreaker to take the set 7-6 (3) and defend his Wimbledon title.
Djokovic has kind words for Kyrgios after the match
During the post-match interview, Djokovic praised Kyrgios for his wonderful run in the tournament. He said, “Congrats to you and your team for an amazing tournament, I wish you all the best man I really really respect you a lot. I think you are a phenomenal tennis player and athlete and amazing talent.”
