Police stopped the suspected ADF agent on a motorcycle in Kyali-Kyalugo village, Nyendo Mukungwe Division in Masaka City, central Uganda, where they discovered nine rifles and improvised explosive devices.
According to Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the suspect, Ali Katende, is a top ADF Leader of the Nyendo, Masaka terror cell.
The Police Flying Squad apprehended him after an intelligence-driven operation before he could show investigators where he had hidden a PK machine gun, seven SMGs, a pistol, and IEDs.
According to CP Enanga, the cell is linked to those in Maganjo and Matugga, and has carried out attacks on police stations. “We applaud the arrest of Ali Katende alias Mao, the commander of the Nyendo terrorist group. All of these attacks would be coordinated from Masaka.
They would collaborate with the other two terror cells, Maganjo and Matuga, to launch attacks on the nation’s police and people. We built on the information obtained from previously detained ADF suspects. We were able to locate Ali Katende.
“Before adding that some of the guns had been used in earlier attacks on the Busiika and Kabadazza Police stations, Mr. Enanga told journalists in Kampala on Sunday.
