CORONATION Street fans are disgusted after Bernie Winter took half of the reward money after Joseph Brown’s disappearance.
The cafe worker – who is played by actress Jayne Hazlegrove in the ITV soap – discovered that Joseph going missing wasn’t an accident this week.
Residents raised more than £32,000 for a reward for the schoolboy’s safe return.
And on his way home, he was spotted by Bernie’s pal Clint – who quickly bribed the boy into saying he found him so he could collect the cash.
However Bernie learned the truth instead of exposing Clint – she takes half the cash to keep quiet.
“I’m not some gullible pensioner who’s blinded by your patter,” she told him.
Clint tried to lie his way out of it insisting he just gave Joseph some money – but Bernie saw straight through him and told him to try again.
Finally relenting, he told her: “He was on his way home when I spotted him. He was already on his way back and I have him a few quid to keep that bit quiet.

“I did find the little guy. For all we know he could have changed his mind – or something horrible could have happened to him on the way back.
“Thank goodness I was there to get him home unharmed.
“There was a reward for his safe return and I returned him safely. I don’t know what I’ve done wrong.”
Bernie was disgusted and warned Clint she was going to the police to expose his scam.
But she stopped when he made her an offer for half the £32,000.
And when he transferred it the deal was done – and while Bernie was quids in and able to help her family, viewers were different.
They are predicting horror for the family when the secret is revealed.
One wrote: “Bernie got the money from that guy, knew it. #Corrie”
A second said: “I thought Bernie would want half of the reward money and now I think she’ll take it because Chesney is going to run himself ragged with an extra job.
“I think she’ll spill the beans to save Chesney and Gemma from the cops and social services.”
Another added: “Oh wait until they find out about her deal! #Corrie”
