Former Coronation Street star Charlie De Melo has swapped the cobbles for treading the boards.
The actor, 32, has landed a role in a new theatre production just weeks after bowing out of the ITV soap.
Charlie shared his exciting news with his fans today – revealing it was something his mum really wanted him to do.
He explained: “When I first announced to my (utterly bewildered) parents, about 1000 years ago, that I wanted to make a try at being an Actor, my Mum (presumably after the shock and disappointment had worn off) gave me three provisos, if this was the path I wished for myself.
“Three things she wanted for my life and career.
“Very pleased to say that, as of today, I’ve ticked the second off that list.
“This theatre, with this material, with this combination of people involved. I can’t wait to get started. ❤”
Charlie will be starring in the Alan Bennett play The Clothes They Stood Up In at the Nottingham Playhouse, alongside an impressive cast, including Sophie Thompson, Adrian Scarborough and Natasha Magigi.
Charlie left Weatherfield earlier this month after being involved in heart-stopping stories for almost five years.
Solicitor Imran Habeeb was first introduced to ITV viewers in November, 2017, as he was seeking solace from his failing marriage to Sabeen.

His character was given a dramatic exit in car crash, amid his battle for his son Alfie against Abi Webster.
Imran has been involved in what appears to be the opposite of a redemption arc, shedding his heroic image to wear the mask of a villain.
Imran notably fought to clear Yasmeen Nazir’s name of attempted murder, as she tried to writhe her way out of her former abusive husband Geoff’s grasp.
When he fell to his death after a rooftop showdown, she was accused of his murder and Imran was right there to prove her innocence along with the abuse she had endured.
The actor later revealed he planned to leave in 2018, but rethought it when the pandemic struck.
