Allen Leech has revealed he and his wife Jessica Blair Herman are expecting their second daughter.

The Downton Abbey star, who plays former chauffeur and the current estate manager Tom Branson, 40, joked that he will be ‘well outnumbered’ when their bundle of joy arrives later on this year.

In an interview with Page Six during the Downton Abbey: A New Era premiere in New York on Sunday, the actor did not explicitly share the sex of their unborn child but said: ‘If you can see what myself and my wife are wearing, you have a clue.’

While Allen wore a pale pink suit jacket, his 35-year-old wife stunned in a dazzling rose gold gown.

The Irish actor wed actress-and-producer Jessica in 2019 at the Alisal Ranch and Resort in Solvang, California, before they welcomed their first daughter a year later.

Allen has reprised his role as Tom Branson in Downton Abbey: A New Era, with some scenes filmed in the South of France.

Of the opulent location, he said: ‘We heard that might be in the script. And every actor – if they say they didn’t, they’re lying – checked “Exterior: Riviera” to see if their character was there. It was the first thing I did, and I was delighted [to make the cut].’

When quizzed by the publication if he had splashed out on his own villa in Southern France, he joked that they should ask the show creator and director Julian Fellowes where the money goes.

Downton Abbey: A New Era, sees the Crawley family head to the South of France to uncover a mystery at a villa bestowed to Dowager Countess of Grantham, Violet Crawley, while an ambitious director plans to make a film at Downton.

Downton creator Julian previously teased some details about the movie, which is based on the acclaimed TV series.

Speaking about the project, Julian shared: ‘It’s really a new era. The further the ’20s went along, the more the world was changing in so many ways. Everything from entertainment to transport was really different by the end of the ’20s. That’s what we’re referring to in that.’

Julian sees the Downton films as an extension of the hit TV series, which ran for six seasons between 2010 and 2015, and he explained that the new movie will pick up from where the 2019 film ended.

He said: ‘As we know from the last film, Mary may not be the titular head of the household, but she is effectively running the show. We take that further.

‘We’re trying to mark the change – the fact that Crawleys of Downton are nearly in the 1930s, which is merely the beginning of the modern world.’
