MARK Wright teared up as he remembered the moment he realised he was famous in a new podcast interview.
The 35-year-old’s life was changed forever when he became an overnight sensation on the first series of Towie in 2010.
He was portrayed as a handsome lothario whose relationships with Lauren Goodger, Sam Faiers and Lucy Mecklenburgh played out on screen.
Talking to Aaron McLean’s No Boundaries podcast, Mark recalled how his world was turned upside down during a club appearance the week after his debut on telly.
He said: “I’ve gone in the club – all that week I’ve been filming so I’ve not been out in public – I’ve gone in this club and I didn’t know what was happening.
“Because Towie blew up overnight, it didn’t gradually happen. People started looking at me in the club and asking me for pictures. I remember I took myself to the toilet and I text my mum, I’ll always remember it, I’m actually choked up thinking about it. And I went ‘mum, I’m famous’.
“I was like ‘that’s it now, my life’s never going to be the same’. From that day I never looked back. It just kept growing.”
Mark’s newfound fame was daunting and he quickly wanted to separate himself from Towie.
He grew increasingly unhappy with the persona he was given on the show which caused him to be trolled by people he knew in Essex.
After a year on the show and three series, Mark quit and turned his attention to I’m A Celebrity.
