New research has revealed 81% of Brits don’t know who is representing the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest this year.
UK entrant Sam Ryder will perform his song SPACE MAN at the Grand Final in Turin on Saturday, but only 19% of respondents in a new poll were aware he was the one entering into the competition for the nation.
The poll from Censuswide on behalf of Betfair Casino surveyed 2002 adults from across the UK and also asked them who they’d like to see represent the country.
Ed Sheehan came out on top with 26% of the vote, followed by Adele (21%) and Sir Elton John (14%) who came in second and third place respectively.
Other names included in the mix were George Ezra (13%), Sam Smith (12%) and Lewis Capaldi (12%).
James Newman, the UK’s 2021 Eurovision entrant, failed to earn any points at the previous contest as his track Embers landed in last place.
When asked why they thought this might be, the majority of respondents (38%) believed it was down to political voting, while a further 19% put it down to a bad choice of song and 13% thought other entries were better.
