But fans hoping for the show to be recognised for its final episodes found themselves disappointed when the show failed to pick up a single nomination.

Sister show Casualty picked up three spots on the longlist for returning drama, drama performance for Charles Venn and rising star for Arin Smethhurst.

Casualty’s nomination for returning drama instead of serial drama means it will not face the other soaps.

Instead Coronation Street, Emmerdale and EastEnders will take on Hollyoaks, Neighbours, Home and Away and Doctors for the serial drama award.

Meanwhile Netflix megahit Heartstopper has been nominated in the new drama category, while stars Kit Connor and Joe Locke have both picked up nods for rising talent.

There has also been a new category introduced with an experts award.

Bosses have announced a brand new category for the specialists who inform and inspire us with their knowledge on prime-time TV.

Sir David Attenborough leads the field for his nature documentaries, while Prue Leith earns a place alongside him on the longlist of nominees for her work in the kitchen.

Meanwhile money saving expert Martin Lewis has been put on the list for his work in saving people cash during the cost of living crisis.

The other names are fairly new to our screens – Steven Bartlett from Dragons’ Den, Clarkson’s Farm grafter Kaleb Cooper, new chief of SAS: Who Dares Wins Rudy Reyes, iceman Wim Hof and Repair Shop host Jay Blades.

And more streaming shows feature than ever before. The list includes a collection that demonstrates the huge breadth of content viewers can find across Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ and Apple TV, with shows including Slow Horses and Bridgerton up for gongs.
