DEAR DEIDRE: WEEKS before I met my husband he raped a woman – and I only found out when he told me about it years later when we were in our local pub.
I was mortified and then realised I had no idea who the hell I’d married.

We met in 2010 and married two years later. The marriage was in trouble almost from the start as my husband used to hit me when he was drunk.
He was nasty and jealous and lied about everything as long as it made him look like a good man. We have a five-year-old daughter.
After learning he’d had sex with this woman, who was too drunk to consent, I stopped sleeping with him and avoided him as much as possible.
I am 41 and my husband is 43. He recently complained about the lack of sex and affection.
I told him that my view of him had changed since he told me about the rape. He went mental, losing his temper and screamed at me that it wasn’t rape.
I have started divorce proceedings, but I wonder whether I should report him to the police.
