Louise Redknapp advises not to worry what others think as she gives woman a makeover

Louise Redknapp hinted at her own insecurity as she talked about debilitating fear while giving a Lorraine guest a makeover on Thursday’s episode of Lorraine.

The singer, 47, and TV presenter Paul Wharton helped viewer Helen, 55, find her confidence again after losing her mojo. 

Upon meeting, Paul asked opera singer Helen from Manchester when she first felt like she wasn’t the person she wanted to be.

Lorraine answered: ‘A few years ago. If I was to do an audition, I would get so nervous that I couldn’t give my best performance because the nerves were just taking over. That was due to not having self belief.

‘I’d just like to be singing, I don’t care what I sing. That’s what makes me happy.’

Paul suggested that ‘at a certain age, fear holds us back.’ 

Louise agreed, saying: ‘Fear can be the most debilitating thing to battle through, I think. Being fearful of what other people think, fearful of letting yourself down.

‘It stretches across so many different ways but I don’t think when you look in the mirror you’re seeing what we’re all seeing.

Paul added: ‘I think we all have to be our own biggest cheerleaders’ and asked her to say something kind about herself every day – whatever has held her back in the past, now is her time. 

‘Forgive yourself. And if you need a permission slip to live your most joyous happy life, consider it signed, sealed and delivered by Louise and Paul because together, we’ve got this, and we’ve got you.’

The pair helped Helen pick out an outfit she’d feel comfortable in, with Louise telling her: ‘When you’re going on an audition, you have to feel comfortable – you have to like what you’re wearing and you have to feel your best.’

Louise and Paul then took Helen to Covent Garden for a surprise. 

Louise said: ‘[Fear] stretches across so many different ways but I don’t think when you look in the mirror you’re seeing what we’re all seeing’

Paul said: ‘What would you say if I asked you to sing right here right now loud and proud in front of all these people?’ 

‘I think I might be able to,’ replied Helen, with Paul and Louise both in agreement she could and high-fived the singer.

Back in the studio, Louise said: ‘Watching that I feel so proud. When she walked in the room you just felt such low self esteem and I think what I learned on that day for everybody, is sometimes we just need to be reminded by other people that we’re okay and we’re doing good, and we have got it. So I think that’s what she took away from the day.’

Paul added: ‘It actually proves that if you’re willing to break out of the box, you can not only nail the look – which you’re going to see, but also a new outlook on life – That’s the most important part.’

Helen then performed a song on the ITV show. 

‘Could you have done that before you met these two?’ asked a delighted Lorraine. ‘I can’t believe you’re in your 50s. You look absolutely beautiful. How are you feeling now compared to how you felt before?’

Helen said: ‘So much better. More confident. It’s having somebody who believes in you that makes you believe in yourself and that’s what I’ve felt. You get to a certain age sometimes it’s more difficult to be seen.’

Lorraine added: ‘So many people relate to you Helen. I think Louise is right. Whatever you were seeing in the mirror – you’re beautiful and you’ve got an absolutely stunning voice. Incredible talent. 

‘It was just like you couldn’t see that. You go and kick a*s, you go to those auditions – they’ll be blinking lucky to have you.

Helen said: ‘Thank you for letting me be part of this experience. It’s really uplifted me and helped me.’
