Sam Fender took home his first-ever Ivor Novello Award on Thursday at the 2022 ceremony in at Grosvenor House in London.
The Geordie hitmaker, who scooped the BRIT Award for Best Rock/Alternative Act earlier this year, won the Ivor for Best Song Musically And Lyrically with anthem Seventeen Going Under.
He joined the likes of Harry Styles, Lianne La Havas, Obongjayar and Barney Lister – all first-time winners at the prestigious music event too.

The awards, named after the entertainer Ivor Novello, are given for songwriting and composing and have been presented annually in London by the Academy since 1956.
More seasoned artists such as Shakira and Natalie Imbruglia also attended the ceremony.
For the gong, Sam was up against Adele’s Easy On Me, All You Ever Wanted by Rag’n’Bone Man, Haunted House, performed by Holly Humberstone, and Let’s Go Home Together, performed by Ella Henderson & Tom Grennan.

His debut album Hypersonic Missiles, released in September the same year, soared to the top of the UK Albums Chart.
His second album Seventeen Going Under garnered equal commercial success and the title track became his highest-charting career single to date in January.
