SIR David Jason has revealed he doesn’t think Bradley Walsh’s Darling Buds of May reboot is as good as the original.
The much-loved British drama was brought back to life last year as The Larkins and pulled in 4 million viewers across each of its six episodes.
While Sir David, who played Pop Larkin in the early 90s, enjoyed the series, he admitted it was odd watching a new version.
Speaking to The Sun during a rare appearance at the Cirque Du Soleil Luzia premiere last night, he said: “I thought it was quite good, not quite as good as the original. It felt quite deja vu, it was a strange feeling.”
And Sir David, 81, didn’t have any tips for multi-talented Chase host Bradley, adding: “He didn’t really need it.”
The Larkins follows the lives of a working class family as they go about their lives in a small village in rural Kent.
Although the family are kind and always try their best, they’re constantly met with challenges from nosy neighbours and snobby authorities.
Much of the novel and original show focused on Mariette Larkin, one of the daughters, who gets caught in a love triangle.

She is chased by Charley, an accountant new to the village, who has been sent there to investigate her family’s tax affairs, and the mysterious Tom Fisher.
Sir David is a yearly fixture at Cirque Du Soleil launch nights, and yesterday he posed with his wife Gill Hinchcliffe and their daughter Sophie Mae, 20, who brought a friend along for the celebrity-packed event.
The actor looked smart in a pair of orange trousers, which he paired with a check shirt, black jumper and a black coat to keep warm.
He gave an update on his career, insisting he was still busy screenwriting and scouting ideas for TV bosses.
He told the MailOnline: “I’ve been very busy in writing and creating documentaries, just trying to get the channels interested.
“I’m more on the creative side, still waiting for Tom Cruise to employ me in Mission Impossible.”
