THE Punky Brewster sitcom – and protagonist of the same name – captivated telly fans in the Eighties.
American actress Soleil Moon Frye took on the role of sassy orphan Punky, who was raised by her foster parent Henry Warnimont.

The NBC series, which began in 1984, documented the pair’s blossoming friendship which saw her official adoption in the second season.
Punky, real name Penelope, was accompanied by trusty dog Brandon in her hilarious adventures in Chicago, which spanned four seasons and wrapped in 1988.
She was known for her cheeky smile, huge fringe and pig-tail hairstyle.
Yet California-born actress Soleil, who played the character until she was 12 and is now 45, looks completely different to the role that made her famous.
Fans got their first glimpse of this when the star returned as Punky for the re-boot last year.
Alongside a snap of the cast, she gushed: “The best way I can put this experience is that it has felt like lightning in a bottle, a comet of joy, heart and love that I will hold closest to my heart forever and always.

After the initial four-part series of Punky Brewster wrapped, Soleil went on to star in Sabrina The Teenage Witch as Sabrina’s room mate, Roxie King.
Soleil married Jason Goldberg in 1998, with the pair divorcing in 2020.
They share four children and the proud mum often shares their antics on her Instagram page.
Soleil has switched her thick fringe for a sleek, mid length hairstyle.
She leaves her brunette locks in a long, sleek style and often posts make-up free selfies on her Instagram page.
