THE Tourist shocked its audience with two brutal murders in the opening minutes of the lastest.

Some viewers of the BBC One thriller were shocked to see the gruesome scenes play out so early in the fourth episode which aired on Sunday night.

The story follows a British man played by Jamie Dornan who finds himself being followed by a tank truck trying to drive him off the road.

He later wakes up injured in a hospital with no idea who he is.

The BBC describes the show as “full of shocking, surprising, funny and brutal turns… set in a world populated by quirky, enigmatic characters and off-beat comedy”.

The fourth episode starts in a small Greek village where a young, teen Kostas gets annoyed at his dog constant.

Screaming at it to ‘shut up’ he eventually gets frustrated and heads out into the yard where the pet pooch meets a grisly end.

Kostas’ dad storms out to find his son standing over the dead dog with a bloody knife in his hand.

But viewers barely got a second to recover from that horror show when the episode cut to cowboy hat-wearing killer Billy Nixon (played by Icelandic-American actor Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) attempting to kill Luci.

Played by Line of Duty’s DC Chloë Bishop actress Shalom Brune-Franklin, she fights off the killer as he tried to stab her and then choke her with a hunting knife.

She eventually pushes him off and he falls neck first onto the jagged edge of a broken window pane.

Billy’s head dangled out of the window as blood poured from his neck and down the wall.

The shocking scenes were all a bit much for The Tourist viewers, with some complaining there had been no warning of the impending violence.

But more observant fans who did see the BBC content warning knew it was a sign of grisly things to come.

“Did we get a warning there at the start of #thetourist?” complained one Twitter user.

Another added: “One the continuity announcer said “upsetting scenes from the start” and the dog started barking, I knew…. If Elliot doesn’t kill Kosta, I will!”

And a third wrote: “I did literally lose the plot with Kostas & Dmitri. What was it with the dog that got killed? Help!”

The Tourist airs on Sundays on BBC One at 9pm and all episodes are available on BBC iPlayer.
