What is Grand Designs: The Streets?

While Grand Designs normally follows one housing project, this series follows multiple.

The first season, which aired in 2019, saw 10 different households through a five year journey build a whole street of new homes for themselves.

Channel 4 described the undertaking as “Britain’s biggest self-build project”.

The new season will return to Graven Hill in Oxfordshire, as well as visiting a new custom and self-build site in Glasgow, to see all the setbacks and success of those that decide to craft their own home.

Glasgow City Council has offered up a small plot, which has given six families the opportunity to build their dream home.

The usual Grand Designs challenges will feature – budgets, delays, relationships strains, disagreements with architects, and the added disruptions caused by covid.

In the new series of Grand Designs: The Streets, Kevin heads to Scotland with co-presenter Natasha Huq to see the birth of a new street.

“We witnessed the very beginnings of the Graven Hill site in the first series of The Street and it was an honour to spend time alongside our 10 plucky guinea pigs,” said Kevin.

“Now we’re back to follow more projects as Britain’s largest self-build community really gets going.”

He continued: “I’m also excited to be able to look at other pilot projects such as Glasgow in this series.
