According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Knoxville and Nelson separated on September 24, 2021, which was the date of their 11-year wedding anniversary.

In the documents, Knoxville, whose real name is Philip John Clapp, cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their divorce.
Just weeks before their separation, Knoxville took to Instagram to wish his soon-to-be ex-wife a happy birthday.
“Happy birthday to my love and light. A wonderful wife and a beautiful mother,” he wrote.
“You are the sunshine on my face and everything good. I love you very much. Happy birthday.❤️❤️❤️.”
As of this writing, neither Knoxville nor Nelson has commented on the divorce.
Previously, Knoxville was married to fashion designer Melanie Lynn Clapp from 1995 to 2008.
