JUST a week after kicking off his Wonder Tour, Shawn Mendes announced on July 8, 2022, that he’d be taking a three-week hiatus from touring to focus on his mental health.

On July 27, Mendes officially canceled the remaining shows, saying he wasn’t ready to return to the road after so much time off due to Covid-19.

What began as a three-week break from shows for Shawn Mendes ended up being the end of the road for the Wonder Tour.

It all started on July 8, when Shawn took to social media to announce that he was postponing the next three weeks of tour dates to focus on his mental health.

“This breaks my heart to have to say this, but unfortunately I’m going to have to postpone the next three weeks of shows through Uncasville, CT until further notice,” Mendes wrote on Instagram and Twitter.

“I’ve been touring since I was 15 and to be honest it’s always been difficult to be on the road away from friends and family.

“After a few years off the road, I felt like I was ready to dive back in, but that decision was premature and unfortunately the toll of the road and the pressure has caught up to me and I’ve hit a breaking point.”

“After speaking with my team and health professionals, I need to take some time to heal and take care of myself and my mental health, first and foremost. As soon as there are more updates I promise I will let you know.”

The tour began on June 27, 2022, in Portland, Oregon.

The tour was set to run through October 2022 but drew to an official close when Mendes once again posted to Instagram on July 27.

Mendes initially only postponed the upcoming three weeks of the tour, which included shows in:

  • Wisconsin
  • Illinois
  • Missouri
  • Ohio
  • Pennsylvania
  • North Carolina
  • Washington DC
  • Connecticut

As of yet, there is no word on whether Mendes will pick up any of the dates on his schedule, but he released the following statement on Instagram:

It reads: “As you guys know, I had to postpone the past few weeks of shows since I wasn’t totally prepared for the toll that being back on the road would take on me.”

He continued, expressing his excitement at the tour’s beginning to perform live once more after the cancellations caused by Covid-19.

He stated: “I need to take the time I’ve never taken to ground myself and come back stronger.”

“I, unfortunately, have to cancel the rest of the tour date in North America and the UK/Europe.”

Mendes wrapped up the post by promising that he’d be working on new music and that he’d be back as soon as he’d had time to heal.

Finally, he thanked his fans for their support on his journey.
