FANS of Come Dine with Me may be surprised to learn that it has been a whole six years since one of the most iconic (and jaw-dropping) moments in the show’s history.
Back in 2016, contestant Peter Marsh threw a total hissy fit when he failed to bag the £1,000 prize on the classic Channel 4 dinner party show.
The Oxfordshire salesman was not only fuming because he lost out on the cash, but also because he came in last place.
Peter claimed the show intentionally edited the scenes to make him come across much worse to the audience.
At the time, he told The Mirror: “What’s shown is not all that happens and people will believe what they’re shown”.
Six years on from his legendary tantrum, Peter is barely recognisable.
His LinkedIn profile shows a silver-haired “business development” professional who “helps businesses achieve their goals using technology”.
Peter’s bio also says he believes in “fairness”.
On the episode, which aired in January 2016, Peter’s anger didn’t become apparent until he was tasked – as the final night’s host – with announcing the winner.
“In fourth place…is me” he told the other three contestants as he gave Jane the stink eye and shook his head disapprovingly.
A baffled Jane said: “I don’t know why you’re shaking your head at me”.
“You won, Jane. Enjoy the money. I hope it makes you very happy”, Peter reponded without a dollop of sincerity.
As the aghast, smirking trio shuffled in their seats awkwardly, the sore loser added: “Dear lord, what a sad little life, Jane. You ruined my night completely so you could have the money.
“But I hope now you spent it on getting some lessons in grace and decorum because you have all the grace of a reversing dump truck without any tyres on”.
Another confused contestant revealed she “didn’t get it”, so Peter – already on a roll – insulted her too.
“Well you wouldn’t. Let’s be honest, there’s nobody in there, love”, he jibed, throwing the camera a quick glance.
Peter then chucked out the thrilled winner as the others congratulated her. Ouch!
