Thanks to his limitless energy, spirit, and lust for life, Collie McGurk was invincible in any attempt. No matter how small the duty, he never failed to finish it, and he was continuously thinking about the task that was due the next day.
Collie was currently coaching a group of young Lavey minor hurlers on a journey he had previously taken while participating in a sport he was really passionate about. Collie formerly oversaw the senior hurlers from Derry.

According to the club, who cited Colm’s major athletic achievements, he won four Derry senior football championships, twelve senior hurling championships, two Ulster club football championships, and one All-Ireland senior club football championship.
While participating in hurling for Queen’s University Belfast, Mr. McGurk won the Sigerson Medal and was selected for the united universities squad. He won Ulster, All-Ireland, and Ulster hurling titles while representing Derry in football.

Mr. McGurk was a member of Derry’s All-Ireland, the senior champion team in 1993, which won the All-Ireland football title two years after he took part as a corner forward in Lavey’s victory over Salthill.
He guided Derry hurlers to victory in the Ulster Under-21 and Nickey Rackard Cup most recently, in 2017. At the time, he oversaw the Lavey minor hurling squad.

Following the passing of Colm McGurk, a two-time All-Ireland champion, the Lavey GAA club has taken the lead in expressing condolences on social media. In the early 1990s, when Derry football was at its peak, McGurk, one of 13 children in a well-known Derry sporting family, won an All-Ireland with club and country.
The most important club football trophy was won by Oak Leaf club Lavey in 1991 as a result of cornering forward McGurk and the Derry team’s triumph over Salthill in the All-Ireland final.
He was a member of Eamonn Coleman’s All-Ireland Senior-winning Derry side in 1993. He has four senior football medals, 12 senior hurling medals, and 12 senior football medals. He won the Sigerson Cup with Queen’s University.
