Early life
Fredrick Tipton was born and reared in Gary, Indiana. He spent his childhood on the east side of the city, namely around 17th and Virginia Street. He received an athletic scholarship to play American football at Ball State University, but he was ultimately kicked out of school for academic misconduct. When he was on trial for larceny and gun charges at the age of 19, he enlisted in the United States Army as part of a pre-trial diversion program. However, he was dishonorably dismissed only eight months later after being caught consuming marijuana.

2017–present: You Only Live 2wice, Freddie, Fetti, Bandana and Alfredo
You Only Live 2wice is the title of Gibbs’ third solo studio album, which was released in March of 2017. The one and only single, “Crushed Glass,” was issued concurrently with a music video that was directed by Eric Nelson. Without making any previous disclosures, he dropped his fourth studio album in June of 2018, and it was titled Freddie. In October of 2018, Gibbs, Currensy, and The Alchemist came together to create the album Fetti, which was also a collaboration between the three of them.
The second Gibbs and Madlib collaborative album, titled Bandana, was released in June 2019, following the initial announcement of it in May 2016.
