Renowned journalist Lana Murphy oversaw live, continuous coverage from Mount Disappointment for the entire country when autistic youngster William Callaghan was found alive after being stranded for two nights in subzero weather.

The Melbourne-based journalist for Channel 9 posted images from a pro-choice rally she attended on Saturday to her Twitter and Instagram accounts. As a result of the picture, she has drawn a lot of criticism.

The journalist also had the awful duty of covering some of Melbourne’s most notorious deaths, such as those of Eurydice Dixon, Courtney Herron, Aiia Maasarwe, Solomone Taufulenaki, a teenager from Deer Park, and Celeste Manno, who was allegedly the victim of a stalker.

While a student at RMIT, Murphy was a cadet at the Riverine Herald in Echuca. During her time there, she was given a Quill for an eight-page article on The Hidden Side of the Road Toll and won the VCPA awards for best news and best news story image.

A Quill Award-winning journalist, Lana Murphy joined the Nine News Melbourne staff in 2018.

As a crime reporter, she sees the worst (and best) in humanity almost every day, but she enjoys providing accurate and true reporting.

She was also recognized for revealing a Department of Health contractor who allegedly used deception to gain entry to a woman’s home before attacking her sexually. She led Melbourne’s freedom marches during the height of the pandemic and covered the anti-lockdown movement.

Murphy, who was covering the protest in Melbourne, was reportedly seen carrying a placard that stated, “Mary should’ve had an abortion.” Numerous criticisms of the journalist have been focused towards that image. The poster was then posted on her personal Instagram account.

Social media users shared the image widely, with Catholic writer and Twitter user Joel Agius describing it as a “disgusting message of Christian hatred.”

In response to the protests from religious organizations and neighborhood residents, the network released a statement on Tuesday afternoon.
