Kelly Hughes reflects on SI Swimsuit feature

Earlier this summer, Kelly Hughes featured in Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit issue as she showed off her C-section scar while wearing a string bikini. 

Hughes is mom to three-year-old son Harlem, with her feature in Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit issue seeing her become the first model to show a C-section scar in the edition’s history. 

This week Hughes opened up on her appearance in the coveted issue and the reactions she has received on social media in an interview with Fox News. 

While discussing critics’ reactions, Hughes admitted she received both positive and negative comments on her SI feature. 

She explained: “Sometimes people like to make their comments – it is Instagram – but I’ve gotten an overwhelming number of positive comments from both men and women.”

She went on to add that while there may be people out there “who want to dim your light,” she thinks of the positive comments she received to highlight how representation is needed.

Kelly Hughes has been modeling for more than two decades, having first signed to Next Models in 2000. Hughes, who hails from Miami, Florida, celebrated 20 years with the agency in 2020. 

As well as her modeling career Hughes is also an entrepreneur, having founded unisex jewellery business Hües. 

Hughes first started making pieces in 2009 when she began hand-crafting bracelets. The brand now also includes rings, earrings and necklaces and has been worn by celeb clientele such as Alicia Keys and Young Thug. 

The fashion model has also built a large following on Instagram, with more than 58,000 followers.

How old is Kelly Hughes? 

The model is 42 years old, having celebrated her latest birthday in April 2022. 

At the time, Hughes shared a “birthday selfie” as she revealed she was “thankful for another year and all that’s to come.”

Hughes celebrated her 40th birthday amid the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. In celebration of her milestone birthday, she posed alongside a four and zero balloon and reflected on “turning the big 40.”
