On suspicion of inappropriately touching a student, a teacher at a Westport middle school was arrested.
A teacher at Bedford Middle School was accused of sexually touching a youngster on January 27, according to police.
The investigation into the case began at Bedford Middle School, according to detectives.

On Jan. 27, 2022, Westport police received an accusation that Ellis “probably touched a pupil inappropriately,” according to a statement.
Ellis was unavailable for comment when reached by phone. According to authorities, the student indicated that she had Ellis for a class and that the event occurred in December “during class time.”
Police requested a warrant for Ellis’ arrest following a “extensive investigation.”
Westport Superintendent Thomas Scarice informed the Bedford school community of Ellis’ incarceration.
Mr. Ellis was immediately placed on administrative leave and has not been allowed on school grounds since,” Scarice wrote in an email.

Ellis was charged with sexual assault in the fourth degree. When police got a tip that Ellis had illegally touched a pupil, they launched an investigation.
The teacher has been identified as Arthur Ellis, 72, of Westerly, Rhode Island.
Following an investigation and the issuance of a warrant, Ellis was charged with sexual assault.
Due to the nature of the investigation and the fact that it is also a personnel matter, the superintendent’s office claimed that the district is not at liberty to release any additional information about the investigation.
Ellis surrendered on Wednesday afternoon and was released after posting a $100,000 bond.
On May 6, 2022, he will appear in Stamford Superior Court for his arraignment.
