THE mystery of a woman’s dead body found floating in a trash can continues after her family believes somebody put “a hit” out on her.
There have been no arrests in the death of 31-year-old Shelby Vercher as officials are still trying to determine how she died.

Police in Houston will not say if foul play was involved but her father is certain that someone murdered his daughter.
David Vercher, who also goes by the name Coy, said his daughter’s body was found in a shut trash can inside Buffalo Bayou.
He added that he met Shelby at a park on Tuesday morning to catch up and get coffee, something they did very often.
“She told me, ‘Daddy, someone put a hit out on me,’” David Vercher told ABC 13.

It was one of the last conversations he had with his daughter hours before she was found in the bayou, however, Shelby wouldn’t say who she thought was trying to kill her.
“No, daddy, it will be ok… apparently, it won’t be ok. Apparently, she was telling me the truth. Someone did put out a hit on her. I intend to find out who,” said David.
“[First responders] found this container floating with my daughter in it. My daughter may be a lot of things, but she wasn’t trash.”
The day the father and daughter met at the park, Shelby said she had to run some errands.

“She said, “Daddy, I gotta go over here and get my mail,’” said David. “‘I’m going to get my stuff, and I’m going to West Oaks Hospital, then to Santa Maria.’ She never made it.”
Shelby, a mother of three, had moved back to the Houston area after previously living in Tennessee, according to her father.
“[She] would do anything in the world for anybody. There was nothing selfish about her. Nothing,” said David.
“She was trying to get her life together, but it got cut short.”
Her father hopes that someone will speak up if they have any information about Shelby’s death.
“Somebody needs to pay for his,” he said.
A GoFundMe was created by Shelby’s father for her final expenses.

“I would like her to be buried with our family in East Texas but I am on a fixed income and it is beyond my means,” David wrote in the description.
The fundraiser has a goal of $7,500.
