A WOMAN claims an UberEats driver stole her $5,000 pet dog while delivering pizza to her apartment.

Melanie Polanco, 22, says the driver, only identified as Michael, denies taking her pet pooch Ella from her family’s Brooklyn property- despite appearing to catch the culprit on CCTV.

She initially thought that her six-month-old cocker spaniel poodle mix ran out of the door when collecting her order on Saturday.

Polanco then watched surveillance footage. It showed the delivery driver getting into an elevator before exiting moments later.

He was then seen with the dog in his arms before driving away from the scene.

Days later, the 22-year-old claims she got a phone call from the driver.

She told the New York Post that the delivery driver claimed he didn’t steal her pooch.

Polanco apparently told the driver: “We saw you take Ella into your car and drive off.

“He was like, Oh yeah but no it’s not me.”

Hours later, Ella was returned to her owner. The man, who dropped her off, claimed he was paid by someone to deliver the dog.

The man was then taken into custody where he’s being quizzed by cops.

Police have put out wanted posters as they hunt for the driver.

Polanco told the Post: “I’m happy, the family’s happy we all got our family member back.”

An Uber spokesperson told News12 that the driver’s access has been revoked.

The company is working with cops to resolve the issue.

It comes after a vacationing family took a cat from their rental home before writing to sheriffs saying they wouldn’t be giving it back.

James Wakefield, 70, alleged that a mistreated stray named Nubbins was not owned by anyone, claiming it was fair to take the cat home to be taken of, according to his letter sent to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.

He claimed she had been found hungry, thirsty, and cold when they arrived at their rental accommodation.

Wakefield said that the family was “never going to let that cat get put back in the living condition she was in without a fight” when cops ordered him to return the pet to its legal owner.
