The victim has been identified as Juan José VJ, a local resident of Santa Lucia de Tirajana, a town further inland, local news outlet The Canary News reported.
He was found in a waterway channel at the bottom of a five metre drop, near the coastal highway between Tauro and Taurito.
There were “various injuries” on his body, but police have yet to determine whether these could have been the result of an assault or an accidental fall.
Emergency services rushed to the scene when a caller reported finding the body at around 8pm.

Local and national police analysed the surroundings of the scene to investigate the possibility of a murder.
The victim’s belongings were located about 200 metres from his corpse, according to sources.
Meanwhile the local fire department was also deployed in expectation that it would take some time to transfer the body which was in a difficult-to-reach location.
After several hours of initial investigation, the body was finally lifted from the ravine with a crane at around 3am on Saturday morning and taken for an autopsy.
The nearby Playa del Cura beach is a favourite among Gran Canaria locals rather than tourists, according to Gran Canaria Info.
