A MEDICAL helicopter landed near the US Capitol on Friday after a man set himself on fire on the Supreme Court steps, officials say.
Video captured outside the Supreme Court building showed police responding to the area as screams of agony were heard.
Park police allegedly told FOX reporter Chad Pergram a helicopter landed on the steps of the Supreme Court building to tend to the man.
Rose Wagner was going for a run when she spotted a heavy police presence and the helicopter on the steps of the Supreme Court.
“Someone lit themselves on fire in front of the court,” an officer told her.
US Capitol Police confirmed via Twitter that a medical helicopter landed “near the Capitol” for a medical emergency.
They did state this is “not a public safety issue.”
A handful of roads were closed while the helicopter landed in the area, but they have all since been reopened.
The Capitol Police and the Supreme Court Police have not yet returned a request for comment.
The investigation is ongoing.
