Young dad killed in ‘extreme weather’
A doting young dad was killed while delivering Christmas presents to family, an inquest heard today.
Rowan Jones, 22, was driving back home to see his 20-month-old son Osian Wyn when he was lost control on a country road.
An inquest heard tragic Rowan was caught in “extreme weather” after he had visited friends and family to drop off gifts.
Emergency services rushed to the scene at Felin Hen near Bangor, North Wales, but supermarket worker Rowan was pronounced dead.
Witnesses described the weather conditions as “extremely wet” and said visibility was “horrendous”.
The inquest heard the smash took place in December 2020 – just one week before Christmas.
Rowan, who worked as a sales assistant at Morrisons, had been driving on the 50mph limit road when he smashed into a wall.
Forensic collision investigator William Gordon Seynor, of North Wales Police, said: “My calculations show that between 45mph and 54mph the vehicle would aquaplane – that road is 50mph.
“I believe the vehicle aquaplaned and the driver side of the vehicle came round and collided with the wall.
“I believe the speed to be excessive considering the weather and the road conditions, but I am unable to determine his exact speed.”
