Home favorite Andy Murray was knocked out of the second round at Wimbledon, losing to 20th seed John Isner. Murray has been impressive this season, currently ranked 52 in the world. However, the former World No.1 is still a box office name at the All-England Club.
Murray is a two-time Wimbledon champion, becoming the first Brit to win the tournament since Fred Perry in 1936. His Championships wins came in 2013 and 2016 at SW19.
Murray brings in high viewership numbers in the UK
The Scotsman withdrew from the warmup tournament in Queens because of an abdominal injury. However, after winning his first-round match against James Duckworth, Murray was no match for his big-serving opponent.

Despite losing 6-4 7-6(4) 6-7(3) 6-4 to Isner, the 35-year-old managed to bring in the viewership on Centre Court. A tweet by sportswriter Mike Dickson read, “Andy Murray can still pull in the viewers, and a blow for Wimbledon that he is out: 5.3 million watched on BBC TV last night + 5.1 million online coverage requests.”
Murray will now move to the hard courts of North America in preparation for the final Slam – the US Open. The US Open begins on the 29th of August this year at Flushing Meadows, New York.

After undergoing hip surgery in January 2018, Murray has risen impressively despite falling as low as No. 839 in the ATP rankings. His comeback trail includes a win over World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas at this month’s Stuttgart Open.

However, Murray was seemingly upset with his ranking as he faced a seeded opponent as early as the second round. “I really want to try and improve my ranking to a level where I’m getting seeded in Slams. That was a goal of mine sort of post-Miami,” he said.
As Murray turns 35, he hopes to keep himself physically fit to compete for a few more years on Tour. However, with a good consistent climb up the rankings, we could indeed see the former World No.1 add more silverware to his glorious career.
