Stephen Curry once had a public falling out with President Donald Trump after the then President of the United States rescinded his invitation to the White House. Steph’s parents, Sonya and Dell Curry reserved some select words to express their discontent on the matter. Later on, Stephen Curry addressed the incident too.

The Golden State Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2017 NBA Finals to win their second championship in three years. Incidentally, it is customary for the NBA champions to visit the White House every year and meet the President in person. Generally, it is considered a proud moment for any professional athlete.

However, Stephen Curry and the Warriors team had certain reservations about visiting the White House that year. In other words, a large section of the then President, Donald Trump’s views and rhetoric went against the beliefs of many Warriors players, including Curry. In fact, the Dubs guard had publicly expressed his reluctance to accept the invitation to the White House.

Meanwhile, President Trump didn’t seem to appreciate Stephen Curry’s reluctance to visit the White House. Therefore, he decided to rescind his invitation to the Warriors’ championship team altogether.

Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team,” the 45th President of the United States tweeted. “Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!”

Trump’s tweet induced a deluge of reactions from different sections of the internet. Many expressed their disapproval of such a blunt decision. On the other hand, many supported the President’s bold verdict.

Meanwhile, the flood of comments on social media didn’t please Sonya Curry. As a matter of fact, she wanted to defend her son amid all the controversy. But she eventually decided against it at the persuasion of her then-husband Dell Curry.

Sonya Curry has applauded Steph’s approach to handling the situation. Incidentally, Steph Curry refused to further escalate the situation.

Instead, he has taken a more respectful and measured approach, while still holding his ground. That’s exactly in line with Sonya and Dell’s teachings.
