The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most successful and storied franchises in the NBA. Ever since the “Showtime” Lakers of the 80s, the Lakers have for most of the time always been in contention for the NBA title. They last won the title two years ago in 2020. And now it seems like after two years of playoff failure they are ready to go again.

After firing head coach Frank Vogel when the season ended, the Lakers needed a fresh start. Hiring Darvin Ham to be the head coach of the Lakers should be the first step in a positive direction for the organization. Even though Darvin is a first-time head coach and coaching the Lakers is never an easy job.

Darvin recently had this to say to the Lakers fans and it might act as a warning to the other NBA teams too. He said, “Stay tuned. We’re pushing the line. We’re coming.” Ham also signed ex-teammate Rasheed Wallace for his coaching staff, so it looks like Darvin’s backroom is also starting to take shape.

Lakers – The season of disappointment

This past season was one of what could have been and what happened. They were one of the preseason favorites to win the NBA title. Huge expectations also stemmed from the fact that they swung a huge trade for Russell Westbrook to make a “Big 3” in Los Angeles.

This trade, though, ended up as a huge disappointment for the Lakers. Not only did they have to trade important defensive pieces, but they also had to let go of cap flexibility for the future.

Injuries would hamper them throughout the season. They never got any chemistry together and the team quickly fell apart. The roster was old, and it showed in their defensive rotations. Bringing Ham, who was part of the legendary 2004 Detroit Pistons team known for its defense, should be helpful.
