Former soap star Charlie, 49, who played Marcus dent on the ITV programme, revealed how his beloved sister Niki passed away from cancer.

Sharing a post to a JustGiving page supporting female domestic violence victims, he revealed a fundraiser had been set up in her memory.

“In memory of my beautiful sister, who died a few days ago,” Charlie wrote to fans, whose former co-stars and celebrity pals rushed to console him.

Coronation Street actress Jane Danson began: “Charlie, so very sad to hear this. Sending love to you and to your family.”

Former The Great British Bake Off Host Sue Perkins added: “I’m so sorry,” while Radio 2’s Gabby Roslin wrote: “Sending you my deepest sympathies and love.”

Charlie’s sister Niki – an acclaimed author who released the book Fragile – has been battling aggressive ovarian cancer for many years.

The autor was undergoing an intensive third round of chemotherapy when Charlie told his fans the news about the diagnosis back in 2019.

“My bloody incredible sister, a true warrior, role model, inspiration and all round badass,” he wrote under a photo of himself cuddling up to her.

“She’s just started chemotherapy for her third bout of cancer with an abundance of grace, serenity & acceptance. I’m in awe. I love you.”

Charlie’s alter-ego Marcus joined the Coronation Street cast back in 2007 – and was a featured charatcer on the soap until he quit seven years later.

Following his soap stint, he took time out to appear on the West End in London, acting as the lead role in theatre production ‘Next Fail’.

In 2019, Charlie joined Holby City in a guest role, playing doctor Ben Sherwood.

Earlier this month, Charlie had fans confused as he sparked a guessing game over who the “nasitest celeb” he ever met was – hinting it was a former cast member.

He asked fans on Twitter to confess the nice and nasty celebs they have a encountered – saying Lord of the Rings hunk Viggo Mortensen was his favourite.

“Nastiest – someone I had to work with closely for a long time,” he added.
