MAVERICK movie maker Quentin Tarantino is launching a foray into music – surprisingly, with Paolo Nutini.

I can reveal that the US director is credited as a songwriter on Afterneath, the opening track on the Scots singer’s first album in eight years, Last Night In The Bittersweet.

Paolo contacted Quentin to ask if he could sample a passage from his 1993 film True Romance

Paolo contacted Quentin to ask if he could sample a passage from his 1993 film True Romance, which starred Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette, and although the Reservoir Dogs director does not usually agree to such requests, this time he said yes.

A source said: “Paolo is a big film fan and the section used in the song really resonated with him. Quentin never usually signs off on stuff like this but Paolo sent him the track and it turned out that he loved it and he gave the go-ahead.

“Paolo likes to make all of his music himself, but to have Tarantino’s name credited on your track is pretty cool.”

It is not the first time Paolo has managed to include a movie clip in one of his songs, having done the same on his 2014 tune Iron Sky.

Last Night In The Bittersweet will be out on July 1 and features the singles Lose It and Through The Echoes, as well as Shine A Light, which he released last Wednesday.

Paolo will play a series of festivals to perform material from the record before embarking on his eight-date sold-out UK tour in October.

But he faces stiff competition from Lewis Capaldi when it comes to having the biggest-selling Scottish album of the year.

Lewis is also expected to drop an album in the coming months, having recently shot a video for his comeback single.

But given Lewis has spoken at length about what a fan he is of Paolo’s, I doubt he will be too fussed if he loses out in that battle.

A mighty Suga rush

SUGABABES reunited in spectacular style as they headlined Mighty Hoopla festival for their first gig in nine years.

The original line-up of Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy sang hits including Push The Button and Overload at South London’s Brockwell Park on Saturday, when Jessie Ware also played.

Keisha said on stage: “This is our first show in so long. The last couple of years have been tough on all of us . . . But I’d like to think we’re way more resilient than people think. We’re all here today, right?”

Steps, who headlined on Friday, said they are so amazed by ABBA’s digital-avatar show Voyage that they want a piece of the action for themselves.

The band’s Lisa Scott-Lee said: “It’s such a clever project. I’ve heard wonderful things and we’re all ABBA fans.

“One day it might be good for Steps. I’m looking forward to seeing the show.”

Gemma: Pod this, I’m off

FOLLOWING the departure of Emily Maitlis, Andrew Marr and Dan Walker from the BBC, another big name has now followed them out the door – Gemma Collins.

I can reveal The GC has quit her podcast with the network after three years to sign a commercial deal for five times the salary.

The Gemma Collins Podcast became one of the Beeb’s most popular and spawned spin-off The Love Lounge, where she gave dating advice.

But she decided to leave the BBC following discussions about wanting more editorial control.

Gemma has yet to announce the podcast giant she is moving to.

A source said: “She has quit the BBC because she managed to negotiate an amazing deal to take her podcast elsewhere.

“Gemma is getting paid a figure that the BBC just couldn’t afford and will be getting far more editorial control.

“Gemma loves the BBC and knows they helped get her podcast to where she is now. But this move will help keep her career moving.

“She wants to be even more outrageous when the podcast returns later in the year.”

I wasn’t the biggest fan but Gemma certainly had pulling power, as her show had the largest proportion of listeners under 35 of all podcasts on BBC Sounds in 2020.

Judge rules big girl is fun

AMNESIA is throwing two huge parties to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Harry Enfield and Kathy Burke’s British movie comedy Kevin And Perry Go Large, which was set at the Ibiza superclub.

The bashes – one tonight and the other on September 27 – were delayed for two years by the pandemic. Judge Jules, who released the film’s novelty hit single Big Girl (All I Want To Do Is Do It) under the name Precocious Brats, is performing at both.

In an exclusive chat, Jules said: “I have realised the enduring power of this film and the fun factor of this record.

“In its slapstick way, the movie has the most accurate description of the clubs and club culture of any film.”

Big bird vibes

JESSIE J gave me pink Big Bird vibes in this outfit.

She wore the hot fuchsia top, with its huge feathered sleeves, matching pants and fishnets as she hit the stage at the Outloud Raising Voices Music Festival at West Hollywood Pride in the US.

In one snap posted on Instagram she appeared to have borrowed a pair of shades from Elton John. The say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Serge’s battle with doubts

THEY made their roaring live comeback at Knebworth over the weekend as they opened for Liam Gallagher at two sold-out nights – but Kasabian rocker Serge Pizzorno admitted he still experiences worries.

Serge, who switched from guitar to singer after shamed frontman Tom Meighan left the band, said: “There is always self-doubt, every morning. The natural thing for us lot is that we are better when the chips are down.”

The band will release their seventh studio album The Alchemist’s Euphoria on August 5. Serge, right at the weekend, added: “As much as it has an epic sound, the record is a real personal thing. ”

Kasabian play Manchester’s AO Arena on October 28, before heading to London’s Alexandra Palace the following day.

Then they have two more gigs, November 2 in Cardiff and November 4 in Birmingham.

If you haven’t caught these lads live, they are worth adding to your must-see list.
