Brett, from Sophie Monk’s season of The Bachelorette, addressed the scandal on Instagram shortly after being booted off Paradise.
In a lengthy post, he blamed the producers for making him look like a ‘s**t bloke’ and insisted the original plan was for Stephanie to join him in Fiji.
Brett explained that he and Stephanie were both approached to appear on Bachelor in Paradise in the ‘early days’ of their relationship.

The idea was that they would film the series and allow their romance – which had already started back in Australia – to ‘blossom’ in front of the cameras.
However, things apparently went pear-shaped when Brett ‘arrived on the island first’ and Stephanie’s contract was summarily ‘ripped up’ – making it ‘look like (he) went on a dating show without her’.
The ensuing controversy over Brett’s ‘secret’ girlfriend and what he was doing on a dating show for singletons was one of the main storylines in the first two episodes.
