GREAT British Menu 2022 saw a number of talented chefs compete for the crown.
With the opportunity to represent their region and cook for the prestigious banquet, one lucky chef has secured the win.
Spencer Metzger has been named Great British Menu Champion of Champions 2022.
Spencer is the head chef at The Ritz hotel and has now joined Niall Keating, Lorna McNee and James Cochran as one of the champions of the BBC Two cooking show.
32 skilled chefs from across the UK were tasked across eight weeks, to cook breath-taking dishes to celebrate this year’s theme – 100 Years of British Broadcasting.
Who were the finalists and what did they cook?
The contestants for each area were reduced to just two, before they went head-to-head before the judging panel in the hope
of securing a place in Finals Week.
Chris McClurg and Spencer both did their very best to take the top spot on this year’s competiton.
During the competition, Chris decided to serve up a delicious Derry Girls inspired dessert which uses Copeland Gin from Donaghadee in his home county.
The chef explained: “My dessert, Trifle Derry Girls, is born of my love for the show and an episode in particular where Ma Mary borrows Michelle’s Aunt Sarah’s big bowl.”
He also added: “When I read the brief and realised it was related to broadcasting, I knew my dessert just had to be a trifle of some sort, and no trifle is more classic than a retro sherry trifle.”

Spencer on the other hand impressed the judges and won the fish course by cooking his fish dish named ‘Be careful what you fish for’.
The meal was inspired by his love for Sherlock Holmes and consisted of unique ingredients including brill, smoked beurre blanc, dulse, finger lime, chives, marinated grapes and sea vegetables.
BBC Two has not yet announced whether Great British Menu will return for another series.
The first ever episode aired back in 2006 and has seen 17 seasons since then.
Despite no official confirmation, it may be likely the cooking show will return for an 18th season in 2023.
