62-year-old actor, comedian and TV personality Dante Daniel “Danny” Bonaduce took “temporary medical leave” from his radio show on 29 April 2022, pending diagnosis for what various outlets called a “mysterious illness”.
“Charlie Chaplin. Willy Wonka. Danny Bonaduce. I’ve joined the club of cool guys with canes,” he later tweeted.
His health was the subject of curiosity among listeners and pundits. Meanwhile, Bonaduce thanked his followers for reaching out with words of support.
What happened to Danny Bonaduce between his “mystery illness” taking him off the air and now, and what shape is his health in now?
What happened to Danny Bonaduce? Health updates and ‘mystery illness’
On 29 April 2022, Danny Bonaduce shared some health news. He tweeted he’d be taking “temporary medical leave” from his radio show.
He has hosted a morning talk and music show at Seattle radio station KZOK-FM since 14 November 2011.
“I’ll share more when I know more,” he wrote. “I’m still working towards receiving a diagnosis. What I know is, I need time to focus on my health.”
The lack of a conclusive diagnosis is what led some outlets, such as Page Six, to describe Danny Bonaduce’s ailment as a “mystery illness”.
Danny’s sister Celia updated followers regarding her brother’s health
“Many of you have reached out to see what’s going on with my brother Danny,” his sister Celia wrote on Facebook. Danny later tweeted a screenshot of the post.
She added: “We are not being coy when we say this is a ‘mystery illness’. In layman’s terms, his balance sucks – super sucks – and all the great medical minds of Seattle are at work to solve this conundrum.”
His health started to improve two weeks after he decided to take time off.
Danny tweeted a screenshot of his wife Amy’s diary on 29 May 2022. On Thursday, 12 May, she wrote her husband had “started getting better on this day”.
He is now back on air
Danny Bonaduce announced via Instagram yesterday that he is returning to the radio this week.
“Can’t wait,” he wrote. “My brain is still a little fuzzy,” he added, “but that’s never stopped me – or the people who hire me.”
Bonaduce confirmed on Saturday he would be appearing on ABC’s Good Morning America on Monday morning.
On that note, Amy Bonaduce, Danny’s wife of almost 12 years, posted what RAMP247 describes as a “frantic 14-second video” to Twitter, saying: “Nothing, and I mean nothing, makes you pick up your house faster than when Good Morning America is sending a crew.”
Has Danny Bonaduce revealed anything about his diagnosis?
No, although he may have more to add when the Good Morning America cameras begin to whir.
His “mystery illness” confounded those following Danny Bonaduce’s updates regarding his health problems for the best part of two months.
One of his symptoms is – or was – difficulty balancing, but Danny’s kept much of the detail out of the public eye.
Amy tweeted in mid May she wished she had more information to share regarding her husband’s condition and diagnosis.
“I’ve realised we have been waiting on a grand diagnosis,” she wrote, “one name that would answer every question. But you don’t always get that. The good news is he’s doing better every day.”
