Tyler Schmidt, 42, Sarah Schmidt, 42, and 6-year-old Lulu Schmidt died Friday while camping in an eastern Iowa state park.
A 9-year-old youngster is said to have survived the shooting on Friday morning that killed his parents and sister as they were camping in Maquoketa Caves State Park, according to a Facebook post by the mayor of Cedar Falls.

Residents of Cedar Falls, Tyler Schmidt and Sarah Schmidt, died inside their tent on Friday morning in the Maquoketa Caves.
According to a statement from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, officers responded to allegations of a shooting at the Maquoketa Caves State Park Campground before 6:30 a.m. on Friday. Police found three people who had been shot to death inside a tent at the campground, according to DCI associate director Mitch Mortvedt.
The Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner will conduct the autopsies on each of the three victims. After completion, the results will be made available to the public. The State Medical Examiner will also conduct an autopsy on the suspect, 23-year-old Anthony Orlando Sherwin.

The 23-year-old Anthony Orlando Sherwin, who was just recognized by the authorities, committed the murder in Maquoketa Caves State Park. He murdered a family of three before committing suicide.
According to the authorities, a triple homicide at the Maquoketa Caves State Park campground was reported at 6:23 a.m. on Friday to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation.
The police came across three deceased bodies. A camper was later found to be gone by police.
Mortvedt did not give a justification. The three victims, according to him, belonged to a different campsite than Sherwin’s. It was not apparent, according to Mortvedt, whether these killings were premeditated or whether Sherwin knew the victims.

Lulu Schmidt is one of the members of the family who died instantly while camping in Maquoketa Caves State Park. She was the daughter of Tyler Schmidt and Sarah Schmidt, the other two people shot.
Lulu passed away when she was just six years old. Arlo, her older brother, is just nine years old and survived the shooting.
