Olivia Newton-John’s tragic death has left fans around the world devastated. And many are now wondering about her family. Let’s find out more about her siblings, Rona and Hugh, and their parents.

Olivia sadly passed away yesterday after battling breast cancer for over 30 years. The singer revealed in September 2018 that she was having treatment for cancer at the base of her spine.

Her husband announced her death in a statement on her verified Instagram account, writing: “Dame Olivia Newton-John passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

Olivia Newton-John’s family history explored

Olivia’s career is very contrasting to the one her father had. Her dad Brinley lived most of his life outside of the spotlight as an MI5 agent, Bletchley Codebreaker and finally as a university administrator and professor of German Literature.

Brinley is rumored to have placed Nazi leader Rudolph Hess under arrest in World War 2. He died in July 1992 at age 78 of liver cancer, and soon after his death, Olivia was first diagnosed with breast cancer.

Olivia’s mother Irene Newton-John came from a very academic family based in the West of Germany. She was the eldest daughter of Max Born who won the Nobel Prize in 1954 for Quantum Mechanics. Max was also good friends with Albert Einstein and Irene remembers Einstein coming to their home and playing the violin.

Rona Newton-John was very similar to her sister and worked was an actress, model and writer during the 70s and 80s. She appeared in sketches on TV series The Benny Hill Show, and also recorded a song, Just Us Two, with her sister Olivia in 1972.

Married at least twice with four children, Rona met her third husband, actor Jeff Conaway of the American TV-Series Taxi at a party during the filming of Grease in 1978. They were married for two years but divorced in 1985. Her sons are movie producer Brian Goldsmith and race car driver Emerson Newton-John.

Hugh Newton-John is the only biological brother of Olivia. He was known to be an infectious diseases specialist at Melbourne’s Fairfield Infectious Diseases Hospital in the 1970s and 1980s. He was known for his outgoing personality, razor-sharp intellect, and extraordinary capacity to reassess complex infectious diseases. Hugh sadly passed away due to health deterioration, however, the cause of death was not disclosed to the general public.

Olivia’s death has sparked much sadness, with adoring fans paying tribute worldwide to her remarkable talent and her brave fight with cancer.
