“Chapter Eight: Papa” and “Chapter Nine: The Piggyback,” the two final episodes in the Netflix sci-fi/horror series’ fourth season, with a combined length of over 4 hours. Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Will (Noah Schnapp), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and Max (Max Irons) are among the teenagers featured (Sadie Sink). Joyce (Winona Ryder), Hopper (David Harbour), Steve (Joe Keery), Nancy (Natalia Dyer), Robin (Maya Hawke), Jonathan (Charlie Heaton), Eddie (Joseph Quinn), Murray (Brett Gelman), and Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine) are among the older characters that make appearances.

The first look photos come after the release of previously unknown Stranger Things Season 4, Volume 2 video, which promised Eleven’s imminent clash with Vecna, the season’s new adversary. “Chapter Seven: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab,” the concluding episode of Volume 1, established that Vecna was previously Henry Creel/One and that Eleven is to blame for both his monster metamorphosis and his exile to the Upside Down dimension.

Shawn Levy, the show’s executive producer, recently addressed why Stranger Things Season 4 was split in two. According to Levy, the decision was taken to split the fourth season’s episodes in order to keep viewers from having to wait even longer for the show’s plot to continue. “We didn’t think nine episodes would be completed in time,” he continued, “and we’ve already made the world wait long enough.” “We always felt that if we could produce the first seven, since it’s such a gratifying breaking point and pay-off moment, it’d keep people nourished for enough weeks so we could finish Volume 2,” says the team.

While viewers won’t have to wait long for Season 4, Volume 2, the show’s writers have already stated that these last two episodes will not settle all of the mysteries revealed in Volume 1. The Duffer Brothers have announced that Volume 2 will not explain why time has stopped in the Upside Down, and that the explanation would instead be revealed in Stranger Things’ fifth and final season.

The Duffer Brothers also teased that not everyone will make it through Season 4, Volume 2 of Stranger Things. “I’d be concerned about the characters in Volume 2,” says the author. According to Ross Duffer. “I hope that makes sense, since it’s a darker season, and the children are no longer children. As a result, everyone is in risk.”
