MELANIA Trump urged her 2million Twitter followers to donate to the International Committee of the Red Cross in support of Ukraine on Monday.
Fans are praising the former First Lady for sharing a tweet calling Russia’s attack on Ukraine “heartbreaking” and “horrific” in her first public remarks about the invasion.
“It is heartbreaking and horrific to see innocent people suffering,” The former first lady said.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the Ukrainian people.”
Melania called for donations to the Red Cross, where the funds will be used to respond to “urgent humanitarian needs,” according to their website.
“I am gravely concerned for the safety of communities in Ukraine,” said Peter Maurer, the president of the ICRC.
“Our message to the parties to the conflict is clear: uphold International Humanitarian Law, protect civilians and essential services.”
Melania’s remarks directly contrast with former President Donald Trump’s statement last week where he praised Vladimir Putin’s plan to invade Ukraine, calling it “genius.”
