THREE bodies have been found in a shallow grave on a property in rural Oklahoma.
The owner of the Tahlequah property Robert Lewis, has been arrested after confessing to the killings on Friday night, authorities said.
Lewis was taken into custody on Friday night at the Cherokee Nation casino.
According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jason Chennault, the suspected killer admitted to murdering all three of the victims after an apparent drug deal went badly.
“We interviewed him and he admitted to killing three people and burying them on his property,” Chennault told the Tahlequah Daily Press.
Chennault said that the investigation into Lewis started Friday, when he got a call from Sheriff Mark Counts of Sharp County, Arkansas.
Counts told him that the brother of a missing Sharp County woman had allegedly found her body in a shallow grave in Cherokee County.
“We made contact with the brother, he took us to the property, and we found what we believe to be a female in a shallow grave on the property,” Chennault told the newspaper.
Investigators obtained a search warrant and found that Lewis was at the local casino.
Lewis apparently contacted a family member of his while at the casino, and said that he wanted to turn himself in for the crime.
CCSO Investigators arrived and took him into custody where he admitted to the three murders under interrogation.
On Saturday morning, authorities found the other two bodies in the grave.
Investigators located Lewis’ blue 2006 Dodge Ram truck on Saturday afternoon.
Based on the information learned from Sheriff Counts as well as the suspect, Chennault suspects that “this is going to be more than likely some type of narcotics deal”.
The relationship between Lewis and the victims, along with the nature of the crimes have not been disclosed.
The three victims have all been identified, but the names have not yet been released pending the notification of next of kin.
