A WOMAN has been slammed as “one of the worst ever” flytippers in Britain after she dumped a mountain of rubbish in a car park.
Melanie Gibson, 45, appeared in court after she was accused of dumping 61 tonnes of waste at Turford Social Club in Brambles Farm in Middlesbrough.
Gibson was charged with dumping waste without a permit after Middlesbrough Council safety wardens discovered “one of the worst” flytipping incidents they had seen in town last year.
Gibson pleaded not guilty to the offence and said she knew nothing about the fly-tipping when she appeared at Teesside Magistrates’ Court, reports Teesside Live.
She said: “I didn’t know it was there until I saw it in the Gazette and on the news.”
A representative for the council, Catherine Cunningham, told the court that a total of 61 tonnes of waste were found at the site.
Gibson faces one charge of depositing controlled waste without a permit last year.
The case was adjourned for a trial to be held at the court on May 24.
Darren Mills, 44, faces three charges in connection with the same fly-tipping incident.
He did not turn up at court for the hearing.
He is charged with depositing waste without a permit and with treating controlled waste in a manner likely to cause pollution and operating a regulated facility without a permit.
His case was adjourned until April 12.
Meanwhile, a “disgusting” estate in Blackburn, Lancashire, that has been ruined by fly-tippers has been ravaged by rats leaving children too scared too leave their rooms.
A woman who was caught fly-tipping from her car and fined £614 said it wasn’t her fault because “the tip was shut.”
And a filthy layby in Kent has been branded the “dirtiest in Britain” as it’s filled with huge piles of rubbish.
