There’s a new trick called Photo Shuffle that will show you a new image every time you wake up your iPhone.

You can choose the images yourself, so you’re not left totally surprised by a photo of a takeaway or a receipt popping up.

It’s a clever way to personalise your Lock Screen and keep it feeling really fresh.

First, make sure you’ve got iOS 16 by going into Settings > General > Software update.

How to use Photo Shuffle on iOS 16

Go to your Lock Screen and then touch and hold it.

Now wait for Customise to appear, and then tap the + at the bottom of the screen.

Next choose the option that says Photo Shuffle.

You’ll be presented with a load of options.

For instance, you can choose specific faces to show from the People category.

Or you can select Pets, Nature, or Cities – or even a combination.

And at the bottom, there’s another option to simply choose the photos manually.

You can also change the Shuffle Frequency, which determines how quickly the photos change.

The options include:

  • On Tap
  • On Lock
  • Hourly
  • Daily

Once you’ve selected your choices, activate the feature and it’ll be live.

You can swap to your old background at any time by tapping and holding on the Lock Screen and swiping across.
