Simone Biles is one of the greatest gymnasts and was the most favored one to win a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. However, she pulled her name out from several events, such as the individual all-around, team competition, vault, uneven bars, and floor exercise. She withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics to preserve her mental health. In her support, 4x NFL MVP and Super Bowl Champion Aaron Rodgers spoke out.

While many might have opposed her decision, some big names came forward to support the Olympic star. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers applauded her and said Biles took the right decision as mental health is a serious problem nowadays.

Aaron Rodgers said“I give Simone so much credit for her ability to speak the truth, her truth, and to answer tough questions, and to have the courage to say, ‘I’m scared’ and ‘I don’t feel like I should be out there.’”

Biles, while competing, couldn’t complete her vault attempt, after which she decided she needs time to work on her mental and physical health. After she left, Jordan Chiles replaced her.

Despite Aaron Rodgers’ support, Simone Biles still won two medals in Tokyo

Eventually, the USA didn’t win gold in that event but won a silver in the team’s competition. Biles also won a bronze medal in the balance team.

Rodgers further said, “She’s the greatest gymnast of all time. And mental health [awareness] is an issue that is continuing to break down the stigmas that don’t allow us to talk about it or only allow us to talk about it in a super negative, depressive, suicidal way. People of all ages and all professions are dealing with mental issues, especially during COVID. You’ve seen the suicide hotline [calls] going way up. We’ve seen so many different statistics about mental health.”

Suni Lee won Americans a gold medal for the fifth straight time in the individual all-around, thus the USA, winning it for a straight fifth time. Biles had claimed she was experiencing ‘Twisties’ which is term gymnasts prefer while referring to a mental block.
